We’re a married atheist couple raising two wonderful, strange children. We ask big questions, dissect weird parenting moments, and examine how society ignores or misrepresents families like ours. If you’re any stripe of a non-believer who’s involved in raising children, welcome! You are our people.
Parenting Through Non-Belief
The Family Skeptical was born out of a desire to create a space where secular parents could find resources, community, and support. We are both secular parents who were navigating the challenges and joys of raising open-minded, compassionate kids in a world where religious beliefs often take center stage. We dive into topics such as teaching critical thinking, fostering empathy, celebrating diversity, handling religious questions, and much more.
In each episode, we analyze current events, media stories, religious activities, and various types of parenting advice all through the lens of skepticism. We talk about how we do our best to raise our kids to be critical thinkers, and we pull no punches in detailing all of our mistakes and the ways we’re trying to improve as parents. We want to build a community of parents who regardless of how religious they may be, want their kids to apply skepticism equally across all aspects of their lives.
